Afriwave Can Save Tax Payers Millions Of Cedis

Afriwave telecom says it is on the verge of a partnership with the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) that will provide at no cost useful data for tax revenue assurance services.

The wholly Ghanaian owned company recently licensed by the National Communications Authority (NCA) to oversee the Interconnect Clearinghouse (ICH) announced in Accra, that the move will be part of its Corporate Social Responsibility initiatives.

The initiative is informed by the strength of the company. Per Director of Corporate Affairs at Afriwave Donald Gwira, “to calculate the net revenue of operators in the telecoms sector, Afriwave will need to subtract VAT, NHIL and CST from gross revenue; meaning there is a VAT, NHIL and CST information which we are willing through the NCA to make available to the GRA.

It will also be possible to make certain subscriber information available to organizations like The Statistical Service, also at no cost where the law permits”.

In effect, since one of the deliverables under the ICH is traffic monitoring and revenue verification for the NCA, Afriwave has the capacity for the information required by the GRA for their revenue monitoring activities.

Mr. Gwira insists that Afriwave “will do this service that initially costs the tax payer more than GHC 4 million a month as our contribution to national development”.

Afriwave has since going live in May 2016, put in place practical steps for a successful take-off of International Wholesale Carriers, which should translate into  creating additional employment opportunities to Ghanaians.
