NDC Member of Parliament elect for the Chereponi Constituency in the Northern Region, Hon. Samuel Abdulai Jabanyite, says he expected to win the seat by an even wider margin and attributed the victory to his popularity base in the area. �I actually expected to win the elections with a wider margin by my calculations, but all the same, I have won convincingly�I am a well known figure in the constituency and have done a lot to improve the lives of the people,� he said in his first radio interview on PEACEFM. Outlining his vision in an interview with Kwami Sefa Kayi on �Kokrokoo�, Mr. Jabanyite, who is a former Parliamentary Candidate for the National Reform Party (NRP), in the 2000 Elections, stressed that the constituency will see major socio-economic development under his stewardship. �The development of Chereponi will be paramount, and i will continue to build on the solid foundation laid by my predecessor, Hon Doris Seidu,� he said. The MP-elect mentioned some areas he considers as key in the development of Chereponi as the revival of the cotton industry which has collapsed, and finding an alternative market for Sorghum farmers. �I will link sorghum farmers in the area to Guinness Ghana Ltd�a major problem affecting the constituency is the lack of access to portable water�people compete with animals for water�snake bites in the area is on the increase, especially during the raining season�provide anti-snake venom to protect the lives of people,� he revealed. He debunked the assertion that Chereponi is noted for scenes of violence. �Really Chereponi is not a violent area at all�we�ve never had violent situations here,� he stressed. Samuel Abdulai Jabanyite, who represented the NDC, polled 8,239 votes to win the Chereponi seat, while Abubakari Aminu, who stood on the ticket of the NPP, obtained 7,416 votes. PNC�s Rebecca Jabari secured 176 votes; Issah Yaw of the New Vision Party gain 139 votes whiles Iliasu Fati, the Democratic People�s Party candidate 106 The MP-elect, Hon.
