Sanja Nanja Boys Arrested Over Chop Chop

Three members of the Atebubu Amantin District Assembly in the Brong-Ahafo Region – who are close allies of the embattled MP, Sanja Nanja – have been busted for allegedly embezzling funds belonging to the Amantin Town Council.

The three, Arimeyaw Abdulai (assembly member for Bresuoano Electoral Area), who is also the secretary to the Council as well as constituency treasurer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) at Amantin; Masawud  Yaw Thomas, a teacher at Amantin English and Arabic JHS and former assembly man and chairman of the Town Council and Hamidu Bukari, treasurer of the Council (assembly member of  Grumaline Electoral Area), were arrested for  withdrawing an amount of GH¢40,500 from Amantin Ahinkase Community Bank without the knowledge of other  members of the Council.

According to information, though the three are signatories to the account, they clandestinely withdrew the money from the bank.

Acting Divisional Police Commander of Atebubu, Chief Superintendent Joseph Atsu Dzineku, confirmed the arrest to DAILY GUIDE on phone but said investigations were not conclusive yet and so would not be able to give further details.

He added that the investigations would ascertain the reasons for which the money was withdrawn.

He said the men were arrested because they did not explain to the other Council members why they withdrew the money and what it was used for.

They have since been granted bail and asked to report to the police daily.

It would be recalled that  it was the same Arimeyaw who sued  the District Coordinating Director of the Atebubu Assembly, Enim Yeboah and the presiding member, Gariba Issah, for refusing to summon  assembly meetings to confirm the nominee, Eric Osei, for the position of District Chief Executive for Atebubu.

Sanja Nanja, MP for Atebubu Amantin, has been banned by the traditional authorities in the area for allegedly hurling insults on the queen mother of the Atebubu Traditional Area, Nana Afia Donyina II, calling her a drunkard.

The queen mother later sued Sanja Nanja at the Wenchi high court for defamatory, praying the court to award damages to the tune of GH¢500,000 against the MP.
