MMT Embarks On Alcohol Testing Exercise For Drivers And Conductors

The Metro Mass Transport Limited (MMTL) has embarked on a two day alcohol testing exercise for its drivers and conductors plying Accra to some major destinations in the country.

Aimed at reducing road accidents involving the MMTL buses, the exercise covered buses enroot from Accra to Dunkwa-on-Offin, Obuasi, New Edubiase, Assin Fosu, Sekondi Takoradi and Cape Coast.

Others were buses from Accra to Agona Swedru, Akim Oda, Kwawu Tafo, Nkawkaw, Abomosukrom, Akyem Tumfe and Accra to Kumasi among others.

Mr Stephen Yeboah, the Administration Manager of the MMT said the exercise was not just meant to ensure sanity on the roads but also to reduce road accidents due to drunk driving.

He said road safety was a shared responsibility, adding that his outfit will ensure that all drivers were tested before setting off and after close of work.

He cautioned that any driver found to have taken alcohol will be summarily dismissed.

According to him, the exercise will be extended to the northern and middle belt of the country stressing that it was the conviction of the MMTL that at end of the exercise success will be achieved.

In all the MMTL has a total of one thousand one hundred and seven (1,107) buses in Ghana with two thousand five hundred (2,500) drivers plying over three hundred and fifty roots across the country.
