UCC Medical Students Grumble Over GH12, 000 Fees

The cost of fees for Students at the College of Health and Allied Sciences of the School of Medical Students has skyrocketed, like a rocket, to an amount of almost twelve thousand Ghana Cedis (GHC12, 000) which, if not checked, may lead many students to defer their courses, this paper can report.

This has been a heart-breaking situation which has imposed fear and disappointment in a large number of the students; leaving them confused as to how to raise the said amount within the period.

Worry and grumbling over the issue was what the New Crusading GUIDE saw written on the faces of a number of students in the College of Health and Allied Sciences that they are pleading with the school authorizes to do something about the fees but the school authorities would not budge.

They stated that coming back to school for the next academic year will be a struggle for them since they may not be able to raise the amount together with other personal bills.

“I am confused as to whether we are coming to school or deferring our course of study in the next academic year.  How would one feel comfortable to learn if you are in such a situation knowing that you cannot raise your fees”? a medical student quizzed.

They revealed that the academic facility user fees for the 2016/2017 academic year had come to them as a big blow hinting that fresh students were to pay an amount of GHC 11, 886.00 whereas continuing students paid GHC 11, 168.00 and also for non-Ghanaians, fresh students were expected to pay USD 18, 708.00 and continuing students USD 17,980.00 respectively.

“We are not  pleading to the Government to reduce the fees to that of any competitor University, we are making a plea that will make students comfortable when the semester is about to start”.
