8-Year Old Crushed to Death

Tension is mounting between residents of Maame Water, a small village near Juapong and the police personnel at Akosombo, both in the Eastern region; following the crushing of an eight-year-old boy, Koku Wornama, by an Opel Astra car with registration number GH 2889 v, around 2.30pm yesterday. The four occupants of the car bolted for fear of being lynched by the angry youth of the village shortly after hitting the boy, a KG1 pupil of the Adomi L/A Primary, who was said to be visiting his uncle when he met his untimely death. The occupants later reported themselves to the Akosombo Police Station, where the officer at post quickly detailed cops to accompany them to the accident scene. When newsmen got to the scene a few minutes after the incident, the father of the boy, Awudi Wisdom, was speechless as he stood by the body of his son. No photographs of the body by the media were allowed by the police. Attempts to get some response from the police public relations outfit proved futile, as officials said they were not prepared to talk on the matter.
