Kojo Bonsu To Appear Before Otumfour, Asanteman Council Tomorrow

KOJO Bonsu, the embattled Mayor of the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly, will have to slaughter three white sheep with schnapps, when he faces the Kumasi Traditional Council and the Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu ll, tomorrow a sign of appeasement before his apology to the council would be considered the daily statesman has learnt.

He has also been asked to appear personally during tomorrow’s meeting of the Kumasi traditional Council, or risk the opportunity of his apology over being accepted.

The Mayor’s apology comes on the heels of recent reunification by the Kumasi Traditional Council after the council members raised concerns over certain distasteful developments in the metropolis.

The Asanteman Council last week demanded of President John Mahama to immediately remove the Chief Executive Officer of the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly for his gross insubordination ever since he took over the position.

The Council at a meeting at Manhyia insisted that the president relieved Kojo Bonsu of his post as it could no longer accommodate the disrespect meted out to them by the Mayor.

The call followed the alleged removal of the Kumasi Traditional Council’s representative on the committee supervising the ongoing Kejetia market project by Mr. Bonsu.

Kojo Bonsu is also reported to have defied a request to appear before the council following the removal of their representative.

The Manhyia Palace earlier severed ties with the Kumasi mayor, it was the decision to unilaterally remove the Otumfour’s representative is a show of impudence and an act of disrespect to otoumfour Osei Tutu.

And Asanteman, in demonstrating its level of annoyance over the lack of respect to the Great King, last week Thursday slaughtered a sheep and summoned the KMA Boss to appear before it to answer certain queries against him.

Instead, the Mayor was represented by the Ashanti Regional Minister at the meeting, something the council considers disrespectful.

Sensing danger and the level of anger in the eyes of the council members, Kojo Bonsu has in a letter apologizing to the council.

Parts of his apology letter read: “I have taken notice of concerns raised by Nananom of the Kumasi Traditional Council over recent developments in the metropolis. I wish to render an unqualified apology to Asantehene Otumfour Osei Tutu II and Nananom for any actions and inactions on my part, which may have incurred their displeasure”.

According to him, since assuming office as the Metropolitan Chief Executive Kumasi, he has enjoyed tremendous support and cooperation from Nananom, “and had together developed a healthy working relationship as stakeholders in the collective pursuit of the development, peace and progress of the Kumasi Metropolis.
