Ksi: Police Gun Down 3 Robbers In Shootout

Police in the Ashanti Region on Monday night (July 25) shot and killed three suspected robbers in Kumasi after a gun battle.

One of the identified suspects is believed to be the ring-leader of a gang that recently killed a taxi driver in Obuasi.

Items found on the suspects include two locally manufactured pistols, two mobile phones, two empty cartridges, a hood and a cash amount of GHS24. Some of their accomplices, who absconded, are believed to have sustained gunshot wounds.

Briefing the press, deputy Ashanti Regional Police Commander, ACP Ampofo Duku appealed to medical facilities to report any victim, who turned up with gunshot wounds.

“On the night of July 25, upon intelligence that this same group was going to operate in a house behind the SSNIT flats at Asuoyeboah, police went ahead of them and laid ambush there. Lo and behold, a taxi drove up with five occupants and the police signalled it to stop, but they ignored and started fleeing while shooting.

“Police pursued them up to a point and the taxi slowed down. Three men got down, entered the bush and started engaging the police in a shootout. The police returned fire. Unfortunately, those in the taxi managed to get away, but we suspect they might have sustained gunshot wounds and so we are entreating the general public and medical facilities that if anybody shows up with gunshot wounds, please report to the police for the person’s arrest. Fortunately, the police called for reinforcement and they combed the bush and found these three men who were killed including Bernard Ali in the shootout”, Mr Duku narrated.
