Date For Reopening of CPC, West Africa Mills Takoradi Not Yet Known - Ato Forson

The Deputy Minister of Finance, Hon Ato Forson has said government cannot give any specific date for the reopening of the Cocoa Processing Company, West Africa Mills ( 1and 2) at Takoradi which was closed down 28 months ago until the process of liquidation of the company is completed.

Hon Ato Forson made the statement at Parliament House today on behalf of the sector Minister, Mr Seth Terkpeh in response to a question by Hon Kwabena Okyere Darko, MP for Takoradi.

Hon Kwabena Okyere Darko wanted to know when the company will reopen for operation, having been closed down for two years and four months.

Hon Ato Forson said the West Africa Mills Company (WAMCO) has started official liquidation of the WAMCO which is a joint venture agreement signed in 1992 between Ghana COCOBOD and Walter Schroeder of Germany.

COCOBOD owns 40% shares whilst Walter Schroeder holds the remaining 60% shares in the company according to the Deputy Minister of Finance.

It would be recalled that some workers of the company in Takoradi recently lost their lives whilst travelling from Takoradi to Parliament House to listen to the minister’s response to the question posed by Hon Kwabena Okyere Darko which had then been scheduled for answering by the minister but was cancelled.
