Baba loan good for Ghana - Oti Akenten

The GFA official says the defender's move from Chelsea will hand the youngster more playing time which will benefit the national team.

The technical director of the Ghana Football Association, Francis Oti Akenten, believes Baba Rahman's transfer to German side Schalke 04 bodes well for the Black Stars.

The 22-year-old joined the Bundesliga outfit on a season-long loan from English club Chelsea earlier this week, after struggling to hold down a regular starting spot at Stamford Bridge.

The Ghanaian made 15 Premier League appearances as the Blues finished a disappointing 10th last season.

“It's a very good move because we will need Baba to be playing as often as possible,” Akenten told Ultimate FM.

“At Chelsea, he comes in as replacement. He has been on and off. It's not good for Ghana.

"We need players who are playing regularly for their clubs. And I think it's good because he is moving to a club we believe he will get more playing time.”

Baba, who previously played for German clubs Augsburg and Greuther Furth before moving to England, has 19 caps for Ghana.
