MoH Calls For Probe Into Dzodze St. Anthony Hospital Financial Scandal

Following our exposé of alleged extortion of monies from patients at the Dzodze St. Anthony Hospital, Today can report that the Ministry of Health (MoH) has charged management of the hospital to take all necessary measures to investigate the matter.

An MoH letter dated August 3, 2016 and signed by the Health Minister, Mr. Alex Segbefia, chanced upon by Today,states: “We therefore write to you to take the necessary measures to investigate the issues arising at the facility as soon as possible.”

The MoH letter, which was addressed to the Executive Director of Christian Health Association of Ghana (CHAG), brings to the attention of the executive Director of CHAG a publication in the Tuesday, August 2nd edition of Today newspaper.

According to the letter, the said publication was headlined “RIP off!…At Dzodze St. Anthony Hospital,” which publication revealed how the Administrator of the hospital, who doubles as the Director in charge of the five health facilities in the Keta-Akatsi Diocese, Mr. Christian Akoto Brown, allegedly use his position to influence the hospital’s management to extort huge sums of monies from patients without issuing receipts to them; misappropriates hospital’s funds, and redirects all donor funds meant for the hospital and diocese into his personal foreign account.”

Additionally, the letter pointed out that the publication also indicated that the “Chaplain of the hospital, Reverend Father Harry Justin Barawusu, confirmed the allegation and autocratic leadership style of Mr. Akoto Brown.

Earlier, the Public Relations Officer (PRO) of MoH, Mr. Tony Goodman, told Today that his outfit has taken notice of the concerns raised by patrons of the hospital against the administrator.
He gave the firm assurance that MoH will look seriously into the matter to establish the truth or otherwise.
