I Still Need A House From Mahama, But . . . - Deceased Presidential Reporters Mom

Georgina Opoku, mother of deceased Ghanaian Times reporter, Samuel Nuamah has said the late journalist’s family still need a house as compensation from President John Dramani Mahama.

She noted that, her earlier request after the burial of his late son wasn’t fruitful – according to her she was rather “insulted” by some Ghanaians.

“I am afraid, I don’t want to ask for the house again but if the President willingly gives, I will accept. I still need the house,” she said in an interview with Akwasi Aboagye, host of NEAT FM’s morning show, 'Ghana Montie'.

Thirty-seven-year-old Samuel Nuamah died  tragically on August 20 when a bus conveying him and other Flagstaff House reporters from Ho, in the Volta Region to Accra, after covering the President’s assignment there, got involved in an accident.

Scores of reporters were severely injured.

President Mahama presented a compensation and support package worth GHC93, 000 to the family of the late Nuamah’s family.

The compensation package consists of a GHC50,000 endowment fund set up for his little son; US$5,000 for his young widow Lillian; GHC20,000 for his parents; and GHC5,000 for his entire family.

A year on – Nuamah’s mother, madam Georgina Opoku is appealing to the President for a house to shelter the family – “I will be glad if I get the house.”
