Bishop Vincent Sawah Boi-Nai, the Patron of Yendi Peace Centre, said there was the need for political parties to tolerate each other during the electioneering so as to safeguard the peace of the country.

He said politics was about the exchange of ideas on how best to solve the challenges facing the country.

Bishop Boi-Nai said this during a workshop on political tolerance organised by the Yendi Peace Centre for stakeholders in Yendi in the Northern Region.

It brought together about 100 participants from political parties, youth groups, traditional rulers, and the National Commission on Civic Education.

He said most well-meaning Ghanaians avoided offering suggestions on how to tackle the problems facing the country because of “politics of insults”.

He said to achieve political tolerance, political parties had to abide by the rules and regulations of the Electoral Commission and take a critical look at the “winner takes all” approach to governance.

Bishop Boi-Nai urged the media to give fair coverage to all political parties to enable the electorate to make informed decisions.

The Yendi Divisional Police Commander, ACP Okyere Anane Danquah, in a speech read on his behalf, said the police had put in place measures to ensure free and fair elections and had established the Security Task Force involving security agencies and inter party committees to ensure peace.

During an open forum, the participants called on the police to curb the incidence of supporters of political parties riding motorbikes without silence during rallies which creates insecurity on the roads.
