PHOTOS: First Lady Promotes Preventive Healthcare

First Lady, Lordina Mahama is strongly advocating preventive healthcare services to prevent diseases among the populace. She wants stakeholders in the health sector especially those in deprived communities where access to facilities is still difficult to champion this course to save the average Ghanaian the cost and the pain of treating themselves.

The First lady who is the Founder of the Lordina Foundation made the appeal after donating some medical items to the NkranKwanta Polyclinic in the Dormaa West District of the Brong Ahafo Region.

Dr. Mrs. Lordina Mahama observed that poor health status is often linked to poverty in some communities but that can change if there is a conscious effort by all to sustain health education and other practices that could save people from contracting communicable and other diseases.

She said government acknowledges the huge infrastructure gap and has committed itself to improve the situation over the past few years through heavy investment.

“Government, through its policy of transforming the health sector is building Hospitals and referral facilities, Polyclinics as well as CHIPS compounds, all equipped with the state of the art equipment across the country.  Ghanaians are at risk of not receiving quality healthcare if hospitals lack the basic equipment to enable them provide quality services. We as a country must work against losing lives due to lack of necessary medical supplies”…..She noted.

The First Lady said even though government is committed, it needs the support of all including NGOs, corporate organizations and other stakeholders in the health sector.

She commended health professionals, particularly those working in rural communities for their leading roles.

“Good health promotes happiness and wealth. You perform one of the critical roles in economic development of this great nation of ours”. ..She asserted

“We must advice our youth to avoid violence as we approach the elections”…. She emphasized.
