Gonjaland Is Suffering Yagbon-Wura Tells Nana

The Overlord of the Gonja Kingdom Yagbonwura Tuntumba Boru-Essa II has stated that Gonjaland has retrogressed sharply in the last few years even though their son- President John Maham has been at helm for some time.

According to him, even though President Mahama has commendably constructed the Fufulso-Sawla Road, the indigenes lack potable water.

The Mahama administration has failed to fulfill its promise of addressing the water crisis in Damongo, Salaga and other Gonja areas since it assumed office.

The Yagbonwura made this known at his palace at Damongo when Nana Akufo-Addo, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer paid a courtesy call on him and his elders.

The King, who spoke through his chief linguist, Alhaji Afoli demanded the creation of another region out of the present Northern region.

Guinea worm infestation is very high in Buipe, Damongo, Daboya and Busunu, all in Gonjaland.

Currently, weeds have completely taken over the main water source in Damongo, the traditional seat of the King.

Earlier, the Minister of Water Resources, Works and Housing, visited Damongo and other Gonja areas to assess the water situation and promised to immediately address their concerns.

The Yagbonwura urged Nana Addo to conduct his campaign devoid of insults and also appealed to the gods of Gonjaland to bless Nana to enable him realize his dream of leading the country.

Nana Addo, during the campaign tour of the Northern region, promised to immensely transform the economy if given the nod.

Nana Akufo-Addo entered Gonjaland through the Yapei-Kusawgu Constituency where he interacted with chiefs and party’s supporters.

Alhaji Yakubu Zakaria of the NPP and John Abdulai Jinapor of the NDC are contesting for the Yapei-Kusawgu seat, which has been held by the ruling NDC for a long time.

Samuel Abdulai Jinapor, brother of John Jinapor, also mounted the platform to campaign against his elder brother and the NDC.

Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, running mate of Nana Addo, criticized President John Dramani Mahama for mismanaging the economy of Ghana.

NPP National Women’s Organiser, Afisa Otiko Djaba appealed to her relatives to vote this time round for Alhaji Yakubu Zakaria, who has lost the seat on five consecutive times.

Nana Akufo-Addo reiterated his commitment to transform Ghana by implementing the free Senior High School (SHS) policy, revive NHIS and other social interventions introduced by former President John Agyekum Kufour.

The 1 district 1 factory and also 1 village 1 dam are promises that the NPP will implement to revive the country and bring progress and prosperity to Ghana, he said.
