Government Is Committed To Promoting Quality Education � MCE
Dr Alfred Oko Vanderepuije, the Accra Metropolitan Chief Executive (MCE), said government was committed to promoting quality education through good policies and programmes.
He said development and implementation of Early Childhood Care and Development Policy were aimed at ensuring holistic development of children in the country to enable them to become useful citizens in future.
Dr Vanderpuije said this at a closing ceremony of a special vacation classes he organised for over 3000 primary and second cycle students in the Ablekuma South Constituency aimed at helping them to shun away from reckless behaviours during vacation.
It was aimed at complementing government’s efforts to promote the rights and welfare of children from kindergarten to tertiary level in the area.
He said teacher motivation was key to improving quality education and that the government was committed to investing in people, adding that; ‘‘I am assuring you that teachers will be motivated to enable them to play their roles effectively towards the attainment of this goal in the constituency’’.
Dr Vanderpuije said it was the duty of the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) to assist needy students to improve their educational standards through the provision of school structures and teaching materials.
He said quality education was not the responsibility of teachers alone but parents and the communities as a whole and called on parents to supervise the homework of their wards.
“Parents must not shirk their responsibilities so that together we can have a holistic development of the child in a congenial atmosphere.”
Alimatu Essel, a student of Breman Asikuma Senior High School, who benefited from the vacation classes, expressed her gratitude to the teachers for taking them through the core subjects.
NII Tackie Owuo Owuo III, the Korley Gonno Mantse, commended Dr Vanderpuije for organising the programme for the students and expressed the hope that he (Vanderpuije) would elected as the member of parliament for the area to continue with the good work.
