Police arrest fugitive robbery gang leader

The Ashanti Regional Police Command has arrested a notorious armed robber who is said to be behind the recent robbery incidents in the region.

Djani Jallo, the suspect, on his arrest, revealed to the police that he was part of the gang that robbed and killed a Police Corporal at a guest house at Dechemuoso, the shooting and robbing of the assemblyman of Manso Abore, as well as the Bokankyi Akropong Highway robbery.

On the mode of his arrest, the Ashanti Regional Police Commander told the media in Kumasi that the police managed to arrest one Kwaku Yeboah, alias Gao, and Michael Agyemang at Ejisu in the possession of AK47 riffles, who confirmed that Jallo and his group were the gang behind the robberies in the region.

According to the Regional Commander, Commissioner of Police (COP) Nathan Kofi Boakye, police in an attempt to arrest their accomplices also retrieved other weapons, during which police came under attack from unknown persons, resulting in the death of the two suspects.

In the operation, he said the police also arrested Abraham Kwaku Sarpong, Ibrahim Abbas, Matthew Gyadu and Philip Obeng, who also confirmed the involvement of Jallo, Toaghtoah, Action and others in the various robberies they had committed.

Jallo was finally arrested from his hideout at Akatsi in the Volta Region with the help of the Volta Regional Command.

Upon his arrest, he confirmed his crime and mentioned Jallo Senior as his long-time master who had nine AK47 riffles which he hires out to robbers.

He was also arrested from Effiduase in the Juaben Municipality of the Ashanti Region in the possession of a foreign-made pistol.

COP Nathan Kofi Boakye commended the anti-robbery taskforce which was formed about three months ago for the good work done in promoting security in the region.

He said the suspects will soon be put before court.
