The Ghana Education Service (GES) has warned teachers and heads of schools against running to the media to complain about challenges in their schools.
According to the Director General of GES, Jacob Kor, head teachers who resort to the media to lodge complaints regarding educational issues without permission will be duly sanctioned.
He said the GES would no longer tolerate the attitude of some head teachers who prefer discussing in public, key educational matters that can be addressed internally.
Mr Kor issued the warning when the GES presented educational supplies to schools in the Ashanti Region.
“We have a channel of addressing all our problems. If you are a head teacher and you are running short of teaching and learning materials, a week or two before you exhaust the material, alert your district director through the circuit supervisor and we have buffer stocks that can immediately be released to the school. So, henceforth, we don’t want to hear teachers in the media telling the media their problems. Is it the media that will solve your problem?” he asked.
Mr Kor added: “We, as Ghana Education Service, have regulations regarding talking to the media. You have to ask for permission and if you do not ask for permission and we start sanctioning, nobody should politicise the sanctioning. We must not live in a lawless society, so I am saying this academic year beginning September, any person who gets to the media on educational issues without due permission, we will not spare the rod.”
