Joe Ghartey, Member of Parliament (MP) for Essikado-Ketan Constituency, has disclosed that the current Mahama administration has woefully failed to address the numerous problems facing Ghanaians.
“I don’t hate President Mahama. In fact, he is my friend and we were all in Parliament but I can say he is at his wits end. He has no solutions to the country’s problems and so the best thing for Ghanaians to do is to vote against President Mahama and his NDC in the December 7 general elections,” he stressed.
Ghana’s economy is currently in tatters and the country is experiencing decline in all sectors of the economy, as many Ghanaian youth are jobless, according to him.
He, therefore, appealed to Ghanaians to examine their standard of living and vote wisely for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and its flagbearer, Nana Akufo-Addo in the upcoming December polls to fix the country’s economy.
He mentioned that the NPP has a track-record of implementing human-centered policies and stressed that the next NPP government, led by Nana Addo, would revive all the policies introduced by the President Kufuor’s regime that had collapsed under the current government.
He noted that all the promises being made by the NPP, including free Senior High School policy, creation of Western North Region, one-district-one factory and the one village one dam in the Northern region, among others, would be effectively implemented by Nana Addo and his team.
“The NPP, under President John Kufuor, was able to implement the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS), National Youth Employment Programme and Free Maternal Care, among others, so there is no reason why it cannot implement the new policies,” he added.
The Essikado-Ketan MP was optimistic the NPP flag bearer Nana Addo would be elected as Ghana’s president in the December polls.
Hon Joe Ghartey, who is also the Second Deputy Speaker of Parliament, stated this when he visited the palace of the chief of Kojokrom to pay courtesy call on the traditional leaders prior to his house-to-house campaign in the constituency on Friday.
Touting the credentials of the NPP flag bearer, the MP for Essikado-Ketan, stressed that Nana Addo was committed to working to improve the living standard of every Ghanaian through industrialization.
He explained some of the policies of the next NPP government to the traditional leaders and said the NPP would restore teacher trainee and nurses allowances.
“Nana Addo says every constituency will be given $1 million for development projects and other activities geared towards creating jobs and improving the living standards of the Ghanaians,” he added.
He explained that the money set aside in the country’s budget every year for capital expenditure was $1.6 billion and that the next NPP government would take $275 million out of the amount so that each of the 275 constituency would get $1 million to undertake projects every year.
He also mentioned that the NPP’s Coastal Development Authority would support fishermen in the coastal communities with some funds to enhance their activities, adding that the NPP would not wait for election year before it starts to distribute outboard motors to fisher folks.
Nana Kobina Annan, Ebusuapanyin of Kojokrom, who welcomed Mr Ghartey and his entourage to the palace by pouring libation, predicted victory for Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.
“Nana Akufo-Addo will win this year’s election and become the next President of Ghana. We are all suffering and we believe that Nana Addo is our redeemer and so we will vote for him and Joe Ghartey. But please remember to create jobs for our youth when you win,” the Ebusuapanyin disclosed. From the chief’s palace, the Essikado-Ketan MP, visited the Kojokrom mosque to worship with Muslims in the area.
He also visited the main Kojokrom market where he was given a rousing welcome by the traders and other party faithful.
Amid brass band music, hundreds of the NPP supporters in the constituency, clad in the party’s T-shirts and other paraphernalia, marched through the principal streets of the area and later converged on the market where they were addressed by the MP.
Hon Ghartey appealed to supporters of the party to continue propagating policies of the NPP to the electorate and also counter the propaganda of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) against the NPP’s policies.
