MCE Campaigns At Eid Prayers

The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of Sunyani, who doubles as the parliamentary candidate of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) for Sunyani East, Kwasi Oppong Ababio campaigned at the Sunyani Coronation Park yesterday where Muslims converged to offer prayers to observe Eid-Al-Adha.

Addressing the gathering after deputy regional Chief Imam of the region led congregational prayers to observe Eid-Al-Adha, Mr Oppong appealed to Muslims to vote massively for President John Dramani Mahama in the December polls since he has upgraded the Tamale Airport and built the Hajj Village to enable Muslims fly directly to Mecca and back.

He said owing to the fact that the NDC government regards Muslims and Christians as equals, it declared both Eid-il-Adha and Eid-il-Fitr as public holidays in the country.

He however repeatedly stated that he was not campaigning.

Interestingly, most of the Muslims left the venue before he delivered the speech.

On his part, the Deputy Chief Imam, Baba Sali thanked the Almighty Allah for granting travelling mercies to those who went to Mecca, Saudi Arabia to perform the rituals that were instituted by God through Abraham.

He prayed for peace before, during and after the general elections and asked all and sundry to adhere to the electoral laws to ensure peace before, during and after this year’s polls.
