Time Will Not Allow Me To List "The Inexhaustible Projects Undertaken By JM.-Bongo Chief

The Paramount Chief of  Bongo Traditional Area, Naba Baba Salifu Aleemyaarum, on last Friday commended Government for the various the infrastructural developments it had undertaken in the area.

Naba Baba Salifu Aleemyaarum, said let no one misconstrue what he is saying as politics but rather the development that he has witnessed that would benefit his people. And has been implemented by the NDC government.

Hence the need to show appreciation in terms of what he has witnessed from 2008 till date under the NDC.

He made the statement on Friday when the people of Bongo in the Upper East region turned out massively to welcome the Vice President Kwesi Amissah Arthur and his entourage to their District, in appreciation of the socio-economic progress they had witnessed since from the NDC.

Thousands of men and women from all corners of the District followed and cheered as Vice President Amissah Arthur arrived interact with the chiefs and people of the area.

Vice President Kwesi Amissah Arthur, unlike most politicians noted for apologizing for attending programmes late, has been lauded for his commitment to time. The Veep took them by surprise as he arrived in their palaces minutes earlier than the scheduled time.

The chiefs, who expected him hours late as had been the normal practice, praised him for his time consciousness and urged him to maintain it. He said punctuality is a sign of Progress.

He explained that the excitement in the people was a sign of gratitude for "the inexhaustible list of projects undertaken since the NDC administration took over".

 He said his vision as a chief was based on development for the people and all well-meaning people should work together for the development of the area.

 Enumerating the many projects being brought to the district by the government of the National Democratic Congress, the chief stated that the good works as promised by the NDC government was laudable and would change the lives of its citizens positively and transforms Ghana for the better.

The Chief mentioned the provision of many classroom blocks, accommodation for teachers, potable water, street lights for the Bongo township, toilet facilities,  nurses' quarters, , among other projects.

 He said “The district which was created in 1988 has gone far in terms of education, water and sanitation, health, roads and electricity” he added.

The provision of over,70 boreholes fitted with hand pumps completed", he said and added "we have all seen the good work the Government is doing . He said he was happy Government's policy to deliver quality education at the doorstep of rural communities. Adding quality education is the bedrock of development.

He said quality education as the key to poverty alleviation and the sustainable; A University College of Applied Sciences is to be opened at Kansoo in the Bongo District of the Upper East Region.

The university will offer courses in Information and Communication Technology, Agriculture Engineering, Education and Fashion and designing, this he said was Ghana /German collaboration.

The chief mentioned that they are numerous from 2No. 3unit classroom blocks and ancillary facilities at Feo and Soe while similar projects at Amanga and Awaa which are all funded by the District Assembly Common Fund (DACF). The District he noted. Notable amongst times was the abolishment of schools under trees in his area.

He mentioned  free school uniforms , free exercise books and text books, nurses quarters, a clinic with a radiology department and an operating theatre ,from  kindergarten  to  primary JSS , vocational and technical ,seven chip compounds, 2000 students desk and a number of health personnel to augment the  health delivery system, 7 SHS in the area ,which four are fully government.

Small town water projects by the community water and sanitation projects, and 70 bore holes from government and the MPs common fund, more KVIPs.

 According to him, “The educational sector under Mahamas administration has achieved a tremendous transformation.

According to him, Government of Ghana through the district have provided 15, 000 exercise dual desks, The implementing rehabilitation and construction of projects in Bongo, Gowrie and Zorkor Senior High Schools all in the district.

He disclosed that the district is also benefiting from the 200 Community Senior High Schools promised by John Dramani Mahama and the project which he said is at the completion level is at Azeem Namoo.

 He commended the government for working on the Bongo road leading to Bolgatanga, the capital towns, and the Bongo township road,

He made a humble appeal to the Government and the Ghana Health Service, to come to their  aid with a District Hospital” the Paramount Chief stated that through his able leadership, the Traditional Council has secured about a 20-acre land at Gorogu, for the purpose of the District Hospital.

Naba Aleemyarum indicated that the completion of the Bongo-Bolgatanga road would help boost up trade in his area.

The Paramount Chiefs impressed upon government to consider the District in its plans to establish Training Colleges to help absorb students from the seven Senior High Schools in the area, so as to help improve the standards of education in the area.

He also appealed to the Government to provide the Bongo Traditional Council with a vehicle because their old vehicle had broken down. Naba Aleemyarum indicated that these are also happing because of the peaceful enabling environment that the area has enjoyed.

Vice President Amissah Arthur on his part thanked the people for their sense of gratitude, saying he was overwhelmed by their tumultuous welcome. "This certainly shows your interest and appreciation of the Government and we will keep faith with you", he said. He told the chief that he has made his work there easier because he’s already done the job for him.

He said he call was to inform the Naba Aleemyarum about his mission in the area . And seek permission start campaign in his area, as they  continued with his campaign tour of the Upper East Region

Vice President Amissah-Arthur stated that the Government was determined to collaborate with the people to equitably distribute the national resources to all parts of the country.

He introduced the NDC’s Parliamentary nominee for the Bongo constituency Edward Bawa to the chief and the people. Adding that the visit formed part of the political season campaign to introduce the NDC parliamentary candidate for the Bongo constituency. 

Reviewing the various achievement of  Mahama’s administration  during his four  years reign, he recalled that the Mahama’s administration diligently implemented its agenda for national transformation in priority areas, including power, rehabilitation and expansion of national infrastructure, agricultural development, education and employment generation among others

The Vice President said “as a government we have made substantial gains in our objective of accelerating the pace of the economic development in our country over a short time and would want to  achieve  a  lot  more.”  Furthermore, 

.He said The Bongo Constituency has six aspirants, and through a competitive process and Mr Edward Bawa, won so we should all support him so that he wins and put the past behind us. He called for unity in the Bongo Constituency and urged the losing aspirants in the NDC’s primary to support the party’s parliamentary nominees to retain their seats.

He said the NDC as a tradition believed in development and the Government would continue to invest in infrastructural development

Vice President Kwesi Amissah-Arthur further stated that the objective of the NDC is to support the vulnerable and deprived to climb the socio-economic development ladder.

He said the Government was also focused on bridging the development gap between the urban and the rural communities. He said the NDC believed that it had the best plan and the people to deliver on their promises.

The Bongo District is one of the oldest Districts in the Upper East region of Ghana. It is located in the tip of the North Pole of Ghana sharing borders with Burkina Faso to the North, Bolgatanga to the South, Nabdam to the East and Kasina Nankana West to the West.

According to the 2010 population and housing census, Bongo District has a total population of eighty-four thousand five-hundred and forty-five (84, 545) with 40, 084 and 44, 461 for male and female population respectively.

The dominant population is the energetic youth ranging 10-40 years. The District in one of the most PEACEFUL and Hospitable districts in the country.
