GHALCA Honours Outstanding Players And Officials

The Ghana League Clubs Association (GHALCA) on Wednesday conferred honours on outstanding players and officials of the recent MTN sponsored Top Four Tournament. The Association conferred honours on seven individuals including referees with certificates as well as medals and trophies to participating Clubs at an impressive ceremony at Mensvic Grand Hotel, East Legon. Tanko Mohammed of Kpando Heart of Lions won the top most award after he was adjudged the 'Most Valuable Player' of the Tournament. Mohammed was nominated alongside Jordan Opoku of Kumasi Asante Kotoko and Prince Arko of King Faisal. The award winner, who was an instrumental figure for Lions success throughout the tournament also banged in three goals as well for his Club. He was also a joint 'Top Scorer' of the competition alongside Accra Hearts of Oak's Bernard Don Bortey and Prince Arko of King Faisal. In other award categories, Alhassan Karim of Heart of Oak won the 'Defender of the Tournament' award when he beat John Kuffour of Heart of Lions and Nafiu Iddrissu of King Faisal. King Faisal's Prince Arko emerged as the 'Discovery of the Tournament', shrugging of challenges from Godfred Ofosu and Ishmeal Aryee of Asante Kotoko and Hearts of Oak respectively. In the goalkeeper's category, Stephen Ahorlu of Heart of Lions emerged as the 'Goalkeeper of the Tournament' winner after he beat Laud Quartey and Osei Boateng of Hearts of Oak and King Faisal respectively whilst hearts of Oak's Eric Gawu's goal against King Faisal in the opening match of the tournament against King Faisal was voted the 'Goal of the Tournament'. Referee Charles Dowuona was voted 'Referee of the Tournament' whilst Goerge Seijah won the 'Assistant Referee of the Tournament' award. Accra Hearts of Oak also won the Fair Play Award after receiving the least number of bookings. Each award winner was presented with a television set, mobile phone, a trophy and an undisclosed amount of money.
