Man In Court For Destroying Police Officer�s Uniform

A farmer known as Nana Nfodwo Appiah, has been charged with unlawful assault of a police officer and damaging his uniform.

Corporal Evan Boasiako stationed at Berekusu in the Eastern Region was attacked by Appiah and his siblings for trying to stop them from beating the complainant, Seth Obedeka.

The Mampong Akuapem District Court presided over by Rhoda K. Donkor has granted Appiah bail in a sum of Gh 3,000 cedis with one surety.

According to the prosecution, on August 12, 2016, Appiah and 3 other siblings attacked and beat up Seth Obedeka and his wife Beatrice Ansah for fighting their sister, Diana Sani at Berekusu in the Eastern Region.

The police officer, who was performing his duty to ensure peace prevails was attacked by Appiah and his uniform got torn in the process.
The complainants suffered injuries and reported the matter to the police and was giving medical form following which he attended hospital and incurred a debt of Gh 750.

The presiding Judge, Rhoda K Donkor granted the five family members bail in a sum of Gh 3,000 cedis with one surety each and adjourned the case to October, 6.

A senior family member of the victims, Nana Kwao Peteprah prayed the court to allow the parties to try and settle the matter out of court.

The court ordered them to try and resolve the matter or litigation will continue on October 6.
