President John Mahama has reiterated his pledge not to discriminate against any region or take its people for granted.

He has subsequently pledged to sustain ongoing projects and programmes to ensure the Volta Region gets its deserved fair share of the national cake.

The President was speaking in a speech read on his behalf at the Yam Festival of the Asogli State over the weekend.

Speaker of Parliament, Edward Doe Adjaho, an indigene of the region, who read the speech commended Chief of the Asogli State and President of the Volta Regional House of Chiefs, Togbe Afede for his leadership role and major contribution to the power sector of the economy.

He said government is particularly grateful for his personal involvement in re-engineering Ghana's financial sector and the sterling leadership in the affairs of the Asogli State since his enthronement.

President Mahama’s address admitted there is still more work to do to improves the well being of the people in the region.

“I will be the first person to admit that there is still a lot more to do and I pray that by the kind Grace of God, my second term, between 2017-2020, will see more accelerated growth in Volta Region and the rest of Ghana, as we have laid the solid foundation for real growth and development”

He added… “

Togbe, I share in your passion to see Volta Region develop as fast as possible and I assure you that just as President Rawlings and President Atta Mills never forgot about the Volta Region, so shall President John Dramani Mahama never forget about the Volta Region.”.

He also used the occasion to caution the public and electorates especially to be on the lookout for falsehood and mischief intended to undermine work done by his administration.

“The Ghanaian electorate is very sophisticated and discerning and so politicians who peddle falsehood must be exposed. I want to assure you that I will do everything legitimately possible to ensure that nobody disturbs the peace of this nation during and after the elections.” The speech added

Government also assured the nation that the security agencies are on high alert and will be very professional in the conduct of their duties.

He warned that anybody who attempts to disturb the peace of Ghana shall be dealt with drastically by the laws of the Land. He reminded all that Ghana does not belong to anyone or any group of persons but all.

He wished Togbe Afede, Chiefs and People of the Asogli State, bountiful blessings on this auspicious occasion of celebrating their Yam Festival.

The well attended colouful durbar was attended by Chief of Staff, Julius Debrah, Health Minister, Dr Alex Segbefia, Deputy NDC General Secretary, Koku Anyidoho and Dan Abodakpui  a former Minister of State and leading member of the NDC.
