Dr Paa Kwesi Nduom and his Progressive People’s Party (PPP) are leaving no stone unturned in their quest to unravel the mystery surrounding the death of the late President John Evans Atta Mills, defying insults by activists of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the late Mills’ brother, Samuel Mills.
The PPP has come under heavy attack from the NDC and some government appointees for asking it (government) to make public the autopsy report of the late President Mills, whose demise continues to remain a mystery, considering the conflict accounts about the cause of death.
In a statement, National Secretary of the PPP – the party that has takenupon itself to lead the campaign to uncover the cause of Professor Mills death – Murtala Mohammed, said, “The Progressive People’s Party remains focused on investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of the former President of the Republic of Ghana, Professor John Evans Atta Mills, despite the unprintable insults from apologists of the ruling National Democratic Congress.”
For that matter, he said when elected into government, “The PPP will establish a commission of inquiry to look into the death of the former president to bring finality to the matter and put to rest all kinds of suspicions.”
The reason, he stated, was because “Professor Mills was a bona fide citizen and also the president of Ghana when he died; and we believe he deserves an investigation into his death to restore dignity to his person, the high office of the President of the Republic of Ghana, his family and the people of the Central Region.”
As a political party that prides itself as champion of good governance, the PPP indicated that it believes the absence of a comprehensive investigation into the death of the then sitting president sustains the perception and the belief that something untoward occurred, leading to his untimely death.
Murtala Mohammed therefore, expressed surprise at why “this harmless call to have this done” would warrant vicious attacks from some members of the NDC on the PPP and its flagbearer, Dr Paa Kwesi Nduom.
That, said, was because “Our objective is to prevent what happened to a sitting president from happening again.”
The statement posited, “We are interested in protecting all our presidents from falling victim to the circumstances of the death of the professor.”
