Governance think tank Institute of Economic Affairs (IEA) has denied reports that it has cancelled the planned Evening Encounter with the presidential nominee of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.
On Wednesday, September 28, a press statement purportedly released by the Executive Director of the Institute, Mrs Jean Mensa, said the encounter had been called off.
But Mensa told Ultimate FM’s Ato Kwamena Haizel that she never issued such a release, stating that it was the work of some faceless individuals seeking to dent credibility of the think tank.
Portions of the fake statement said: “The decision has become necessary due to the unavailability of the NPP’s candidate to avail himself” of the opportunity “to take his turn at the Evening Encounter and has nothing to do with the IEA’s preparedness.”
