Policeman Murdered, Weapon Stolen

A Policeman on duty at polytank Company Limited on the Spintex Road in Accra, was murdered in cold blood by unidentified armed men at dawn yesterday.

The gang after the tragedy, took away an AK-47 riffle which was in possession of the policeman, Constable Beard Atebiya Ayine, 29, of the National Unit of Special Weapon and Tactics (SWAT).

A private security man (name withheld), who was also on duty at the company, sustained machete wounds on his head and hands.

The Accra Regional Police Public Relations Officer (PRO), Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Effai Tenge, why confirmed the tragedy to The Ghanaian Times,stated that the attackers did not take anything from the company.

She said when the police arrived at the company, they found Constable Ayine and the private security man lying unconscious, and rushed them to the police Hospital in Accra.

Ayine she said, was later pronounced dead at the hospital, but the security man was still at the hospital receiving treatment.

ASP Tenge said the police had begun investigations into the incident and urged the public to volunteer information to assist in the arrest the perpetrators of the crime.
