Fake Doctor Busted

A 48-year-old secondhand cloth dealer who allegedly posed as a medical doctor at the 37 Military Hospital to defraud 10 unsuspecting victims of various sums of money under the pretext of enlisting them into the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF), has been arrested by the Accra Central police.

Joe Dzogope, who reportedly claimed he was the second-in-command at the hospital, purportedly took between GH¢500 and GH¢1,800 from his victims under the pretext of facilitating the enlistment process.

He reportedly took additional moneys from the victims to buy sports kits.

According to police reports, after telling his victims that he was the 2iC at the hospital, Joe Dzogope produced a fake identity card to further convince them.

He allegedly started his purported fraudulent trade in 2015, the police reports said.

Some of the victims were said to have gone to the hospital to look for Joe Dzogope after he had failed on numerous occasions to fulfill his promise.

They realized at the hospital that they had been defrauded.

The Accra Central District Police Commander, DSP Richmond Bonsu, who confirmed the story to DAILY GUIDE, said one of the victims used a different number to call the suspect on phone and posed as a victim who wanted to get enlistment into the Ghana Armed Forces.

Joe demanded an amount of GH¢1,800 from the caller/victim and scheduled to meet him at a spot in Accra last Saturday.

When the suspect attempted to collect the money from the victim, he was apprehended and handed over to the police by some other victims who were monitoring his movement.

During interrogation, he admitted the offence and is currently in police custody assisting in investigations.
