Martha Nelson, the complainant in the alleged assault case brought against controversial boxer, Briamah Kamoko aka Bukom Banku, says she is no longer interested in pressing charges against the accused person.
This, she claimed, is because Banku, whom she had dragged before an Accra Central Magistrate Court, had come to “beg” her.
Martha’s appeal to withdraw the case yesterday in the court presided over by Stephen Owusu, followed a letter she had earlier written to the court.
According to the trial magistrate, the court had received the letter which indicates that the matter had been settled out of court and as such, wished to discontinue the hearing of the case.
He said the case before the court was amenable to settlement, especially when the charge preferred against Bukom Banku hinges on a misdemeanor.
Magistrate Owusu stated that the court would accede to the request of the complainant.
Martha, speaking in Ga, confirmed the contents of the letter, compelling the judge to strike out the case and discharged Banku.
Bukom Banku, who was represented by Lawyer Jerry Avenorgbor, in a rather gruff voice, said “thank you my lord” as he stepped out of the dock in the packed court.
Charges
The boxer-turned-musician was reported to have slapped twice Martha, a hairdresser, who lives at Chorkor in Accra, on August 11 before punching her on the right ribs.
The accused was also expected to answer a charge of causing damage to a Nokia mobile phone valued GH¢40 belonging to Martha.
Banku reportedly collected the complainant’s Nokia phone and hit it on the ground, causing damage to it.
