Kweku John, a 51- year- old a driver who defiled a 12-year old girl at Adenta on several occasions and gave her GH₡ 2.00 after each act has been sentenced to 15 years imprisonment by an Accra Circuit Court.
John father of three, pleaded guilty to the charge of defilement.
John aka Landlord told the court presided over by Mrs Abena Oppong Adjin-Doku that he did not know what came over him to engage in the act.
He recalled the parents of the victim had been offering financial assistance to him.
Handing down the sentence, the court said it took into consideration John‘s age, his three children and the fact that he had defiled the victim severally.
Prosecuting Inspector J. B. Asante said the complainant is a security officer who resides at Adenta with his family and the victim is one of his daughters.
Prosecution said John, lives in a kiosk in the complainant’s vicinity.
Inspector Asante said in November last year, the accused lured the victim into his kiosk and had sex with her and gave her GH₡ 2.00.
He said since then, John has had sex with the victim a number of times giving her GH₡ 2.00 after each act.
Recently, prosecution said the victim’s mother, who is a witness in the matter, heard rumours in the area on what was transpiring between the accused and the victim and decided to find out.
Inspector Asante said on August 10, at about 1700hours, the victim’s mother followed the victim secretly when she send her on an errand and saw the accused giving the victim money.
She then quizzed the victim on why she received the money and the victim narrated her ordeal with the accused which began in July last year.
The convict was confronted and sensing danger, he put his kiosk for sale and went into hiding at Somanya in the Eastern Region.
A report was made with the Police who in turn issued a medical form to the victim to seek medical attention.
On September 17, the convict was traced to his hideout and arrested.
