Jackson College Students On War Path

Students of the Jackson College of Education (JCE) in the Ashanti Region, have through a statement signed by its Convener, Abdul-Mumin Abdul-Rafiq, raised red flags against the management of the school and Ghana Education Service (GES) on why, especially the 2012 to 2015 batches of students from the school were not part of the recent GES postings of teachers.

The statement queried why graduates from private teacher training colleges were not posted en block together with their counterparts from other public teacher training institutions in the country.

The students, according to the statement, have vowed to embark on a massive demonstrate against management and its affiliated bodies in two weeks’ time if they (management) fails to give them cogent answers.

The statement indicated that,  students of the college were surprisingly  excluded in the postings, though there was an earlier public announcement by the government  that the 2016 postings was going to comprise of  students of both private and public institutions.

Under the body Concern Students of JCE, Abdul-Mumin Abdul-Rafiq hinted that smile and hope which greeted the faces of individual graduates and continuing students of the college were dashed when out of the list posted on the internet; there was not even a single graduate from the college that was part of those posted.

“Upon receiving the news some students took it upon themselves to call some public relations officers of the GES in other regions for clarification, but all efforts proved futile and unconvincing” the statement stated.

However, the statement also stated that, graduates from other private teacher training colleges were part of the list and subsequently, issued with appointment letters from the Director General of Ghana Education Service with the exemption of students of the institution.

Abdul-Mumin Abdul-Rafiq also disclosed that Many attempts have been made by some concerned students to find out from management of Jackson on the reality regarding this same issue through phone calls, but responses so far were heart breaking and unconvincing.

Some other colleagues, the statement also stated were told on phone by the Principal that the announcement by the government that both students of private and public colleges had been posted for the 2016/2017 was not true.

“We are therefore asking for clarification from the government and the management why Jackson graduates were not part of the recent GES postings since our friends and relatives from other private teacher training colleges have been posted and subsequently issued appointment letters” the statement revealed.
