The Member of Parliament (MP) for Lower West Akim in the Eastern Region, Gifty Klenam, has called on the Inspector General of Police (IGP) to stop transferring senior police officers ‘anyhow.’
According to the incumbent MP, who was addressing a mammoth crowd at the campaign launch of Mr. Kyei Baffour, the parliamentary candidate for Lower Akim at Asamankese, the rate at which the IGP has been transferring the police officers for the past four months is too rampant and alarming.
IGP John Kudalor made 29 tranfers in November 2015; 61, 80 and 90 in January, May and August 2016 respectively ahead of the December polls.
Ms Gifty Klenam, who suspected the IGP of working in favour of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC), said, “I’m a concerned citizen. The way the IGP is behaving is making people draw the conclusion that he is working in favour of the NDC by transferring the hardworking police officers. Police officers are transferred to a station and within a few weeks they are transferred to another place,” she said.
The MP further cautioned political leaders in the area against the use of ‘macho men’ before, during and after the December 7 elections.
She also urged the electorate to ensure Nana Akufo-Addo’s presidency so as to curtail the unbearable hardships visited on them by the Mahama-led National Democratic Congress administration.
According to her, Nana Addo has policies to curb the unemployment situation when he becomes president. She further called on the electorate to vote massively for the NPP flagbearer, and the parliamentary candidates.
The former Chief Executive of West Akyem Municipal Assembly, Sintim Aboagye, expressed worry over the level of mismanagement at the assembly since the NDC came to power in 2009.
He said it is very difficult to understand why in spite of petroleum money, internally generated funds and high taxes, the assembly is unable to pay its electricity bills, fuel and even subscribe to newspapers.
He indicated that from January to August 2016, the West Akyem Municipal Assembly owes ECG GH¢95,000 whiles newspapers for August and September alone stand at GH¢10,000 and GH¢10,150 respectively. He further revealed that the assembly owes fuel stations GH¢17,000.
The parliamentary candidate, Kyei Bafour, urged Ghanaians to vote massively for the NPP on December 7 for the restoration of teacher and nursing trainees allowances and also implement the ‘one district, one factory’ policy.
