Police seizes Indian hemp at Offinso

The Police at Tafo in Kumasi have seized four fertilizer-bag-loads of dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp, concealed in a Nissan Urvan mini-bus with registration number AS 794 Z. The driver, Jacob Tijani, and two other passengers, Samuel Owusu and Emmanuel Kojo Baba, who were traveling on the bus from Yabraso near Nsokor in Tain District of Brong-Ahafo, are being held, to assist police investigation. Mr Kwaku Buah, Tafo Police Divisional Commander, told the Ghana News Agency on Wednesday that the vehicle was intercepted at Offinso at about 1900 hours on Monday following a tip off. He said Owusu and Baba have claimed ownership of the stuff and told the Police that it was being exported to Malaysia. They alleged paying Tijani GH220 to convey the hemp to Kumasi. Meanwhile, samples of the dried have been sent to the Police Forensic Laboratory in Accra for examination.
