The National Petroleum Authority, NPA, in conjunction with Authentix Incorporation, a US-based Authentication and Information Services Company, has furnished a computer laboratory of the Kongo Senior High School, KONSEC, with computers, computer text books, tables, chairs, projectors, server cells, among others.
The donation is to stimulate the acceleration of Information Communication Technology, ICT, now Information Technology, IT in deprived secondary schools in the country by ensuring students are armed with the necessary knowledge and skill in IT.
In his address at the commissioning of the IT Centre in Zoogo in the Nabdam District of the Upper East Region, the Chief Executive Officer, CEO for NPA, Moses Asaga, says the donation forms part of the organisation's corporate social responsibilities of giving back to the society.
He also indicates the contribution is also in line with government's plans to make Ghana a hub of IT, assuring the NPA will not renege on its effort to augment government attain such desired objective.
"The development and commissioning of this computer laboratory for the Kongo Senior High School by Authentix under the auspices of the National Petroleum Authority would go a long way to augment the efforts of government in achieving its strategic objective of making Ghana an ICT hub", Mr. Asaga stressed.
Challenging staff and students of the school to take good care of the facility, he said with quality teaching and learning of IT in the school, he had no doubt the students would compete with their colleagues in other resourceful and upscale schools in the country.
With good foresight and fortitude, he said, the NPA would continue to lend support to the school so it could improve its academic performance, thereby, churning out graduates with appreciable intellect to contribute their quota for the development of the country.
Asaga, who also spoke to Peace news on sidelines, called on the constituents of the Nabdam Constituency and Ghanaians to have confidence in the NDC government and endeavour to retain the party in the presidency, come December 7 polls because of its strenuous commitment to turn around the development lapses of the country.
"We need to give president Mahama and his NDC government another term because of the enormous developments we are seeing everywhere in the country", the CEO of NPA noted, adding there were signals government was committed to making the country a hub for many business processes and services to widen the economy and create jobs for the teeming unemployed youth and graduates.
The Headmaster of Kongo SHS, in his welcome address, commended the NPA for its kind gesture, admitting the equipment in the IT facility had come a time the school needed it badly.
Describing the gesture as awesome, he said the computers would support improve students' academic performance, especially in the area of IT, and pledged the school would make judicious use of the equipment.
On his part, the Paramount Chief of Nangodi Traditional Area, Naba Kosom Asaga Yelzoya, hailed the NPA for the support rendered the school, describing it as worthy partners of development.
He, therefore, called on the teachers of the school to soldier on their responsibilities of encouraging students to learn hard as they aspired to become future leaders.
