REN Foundation To Train Kayayie

REN Foundation, a non-governmental organisation (NGO) based in Agbogba, a suburb of Accra, is set to provide vocational and technical training to 120 underprivileged youth mainly "Kayayie" in Madina and its environs.

The foundation which was set up in 2014 has supported the community several times by organising free extra classes for school children in Madina, organising free health screening and engaging some selected Kayayies on issues of personal hygiene.

REN Foundation as part of its activities for the year 2016, is poised to provide support for Kayayies in the Madina community by organising a Vocational and Technical Training programme to help train Kayayies. The training forms part of the foundation’s objective to help alleviate poverty through empowering girls in the informal sector to acquire skills and knowledge to live a decent life.

Rebecca Ekua Adjei Nyarkoa, founder and president of REN Foundation, stated that issues related to Kayayies must always be a priority to government and given national attention. She further emphasised the need to educate, create awareness and sensitize Kayayies on personal hygiene. Miss Nyarkoa said she was motivated to set up the foundation which focuses on helping kayayies because she believes that women have an important role to play in the well-being of the society, hence the need to empower them to succeed. She further stated that “women are the backbone of the home and must be educated to grow in wisdom and skills to manage the home”.
