Nana, Mahama To Clash At Manhyia Today

The two main candidates in the presidential race, President John Mahama of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and Nana Akufo-Addo of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) would be the center of attraction today at the Manhyia Palace in Kumasi during the one-week celebration of the Asantehema.

Nana Afia Kobi Serwaa Ampem II passed away at the age of 111 on Monday, 14th November, 2016.

Thousands of people from all walks of life are expected to storm the Manhyia Palace to commiserate with Asanteman, particularly the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, who is the biological son of the late Asantehema

The solemn event, according to sources at the palace, would be used to showcase the rich Asante culture.

There would also be the firing of musketry, especially when Otumfuo arrives at the venue.

Political Campaign

With less than two weeks to the polls, DAILY GUIDE has gathered that both the NDC and NPP would take advantage of the important event to canvass for votes.

According to reports, the regional executives of the NDC and NPP have planned to storm the palace with a large number of their supporters who would be adorned with the paraphernalia of the various parties.

The NDC and NPP supporters would definitely chant the names of their presidential candidates at the Manhyia Palace.

Security Challenge

It would be recalled that earlier this year, supporters of the two aspirants nearly clashed at the funeral of the late Bantamahene.

But for the intervention of the Ashanti Regional Police Command, led by COP Kofi Boakye, the supporters would have exchanged blows on the Bantama High Street.
