No Show At IDEG Parliamentary Debate

Scores of voters in the New Juaben South constituency were left disappointed as a forum meant to provide the platform for candidates seeking their mandate to represent them in parliament turned out to be a no show.

All four parliamentary candidates – Dr. Mark Asibey Yeboah of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Mr. Ransford Owusu Boakye, National Democratic Congress (NDC), Ms. Naomi Owusu Sekyere, Convention People’s Party (CPP) and Nana Oboade Bonsu Boateng, People’s National Congress (PNC), boycotted the programme.

They did not give any reasons for what they did.

The organizers - the Institute of Democratic Governance (IDEG) and the Civic Forum Initiative (CFI), an NGO, could not hide their sadness at what happened.

Major General Nii Carl Coleman (Retired), Chairman of the CFI, told journalists that the goal was to help deepen the conversation between the candidates and voters.

That, he noted, would have aided the people to deliver the right judgment at the ballot
