Three jailed 18 years for attempted robbery

A Kumasi Circuit Court, presided over by Mr Justice Adjei Frimpong, has sentenced three persons to a total of 18 years imprisonment for attempted robbery. Mohammed Bronzi, 40, a driver, Ibrahim Asiedu Ampim, 38, farmer, and Abubakari Hamidu, 35, a butcher, pleaded not guilty to conspiracy, possessing firearm and ammunition without authority and attempting to commit crime. Bronzi and Ampim would each serve eight years in prison, whilst Hamidu goes in for two years. Police Chief Inspector Isaac Mensah-Apenteng told the Court that the Police Buffalo Unit in Kumasi received a tip off that the convicts were about to go on a robbery operation at Dunkwa-On-Offin on June 6, at about 2100 hours. They quickly mounted a barrier on the Kumasi-Obuasi Road at Anhwiankwanta. Moments later, the three drove in and when the taxi-cab with registration number AS 6250 Z, on which, they were travelling was searched, two locally manufactured pistols and eight cartridges were uncovered. Chief Inspector Mensah-Apenteng said they were, therefore, arrested and handed over to the Regional Police Criminal Investigation Department (CID).
