Speaker To MPs: Bury Political Differences

The Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Joyce Bamford Addo has urged members of Parliament to bury their political differences and make the interest of the nation their highest priority as Parliament reconvenes to begin its third meeting. The House reconvened today after a 3-month recess. Rt. Hon. Joyce Bamford Addo advised back benches of the House to co-operate with the chair (the Speaker) to enable proceedings in the House to progress smoothly. According to the Speaker, the schedule of the House for the third meeting is very tight hence the need for members to be regular and punctual at all times. The Speaker referred two nominations made by the President for Ministerial appointments to the Appointments Committee of Parliament for vetting. The nominees include Dr. Benjamin Kumbour, Minister designate for Health and Hon Joseph Nii Laryea Afotey-Agbo, MP for Kpone-Katamaso, Minister designate, office of the President. The Mutual Legal Assistance Bill 2009 was taken through the first reading stage whilst two papers were laid before the House and referred to the committee on subsidiary legislation for consideration. They include the District Court Rules 2009(C.159) and the Armed Forces (Amendment) Regulations 2009(C.1 62).
