Kwame Mills Hijack TDC Land

A private developer has threatened to drag the Tema Development Corporation (TDC) to court for allegedly allocating his parcel of land and warehouse to Kwame Mills, nephew of former President John Evans Atta Mills.

The developer claims TDC has allowed Kwame Mills to destroy his fence wall and encroach upon his land.

Tension is said to be mounting at the corporation over the land situated at Lashibi, Tema, which has been allegedly allocated to the nephew of the late President to political reasons.

Yaw Asebi Antwi told DAILY GUIDE that he purchased the land from the Klagon Area Council on December 14, 2003 and was issued with a receipt.

According to him, he subsequently noticed after an official search at the Lands Commission that the said land falls within the TDC acquisition area and needed to regularize his document.

He noted that on June 25, 2010, he wrote to TDC for the regularisation of the land to enable all the necessary documents to be transferred to him.

According to him, “What surprises me about the whole thing is that I should have been given the first option to purchase the land since I was the first to build a warehouse there. I bought my land genuinely from the Chief of Klagon and I have document from them.

“I put in my application for regularisation for over five years which I didn’t hear from TDC, although I made several follow ups and was often told they are working on it.

Mr. Antwi noted that he recently went to the warehouse to offload some goods but saw some people constructing fence around his warehouse and other lands.

“I enquired from TDC only for them to tell me they had allocated my land to Kwame Mills because I didn’t complete the regularization. Meanwhile, I was on that land when the area was bushy, I made several attempts to do the regularization and pay all the necessary fees but they kept giving me excuses whenever I visited their office.”

When the Public Relation Officer (PRO) of TDC, Dorothy Asare Kumah was contacted by the paper, she confirmed that indeed Mr. Antwi applied for regularization for the land but they didn’t hear from him for a long period.

According to her, the said land would be reconstructed to join the motorway.

She noted that there is no way TDC can sell that land to anybody to build a structure.

A source at TDC told DAILY GUIDE that “my people are only trying to frustrate the man to leave the land and the warehouse so they give it to Kwame Mills who has acquired plots of land near the warehouse. He also wants the warehouse.”

The source hinted that “the presidency had mounted pressure on TDC to compulsory allocate the land to the nephew of the former president and most workers who know about the plot are unhappy with how they are unfairly treating the man.”
