Christain Atsu Wants AFCON Calendar Revised

Black Stars winger Christian Atsu has called on the Confederation of Africa Football to revise the AFCON calendar in order not to conflict with the activities of players and their Clubs.

The timing of Africa’s flagship football event have been the consents of many players and Clubs who believes the tournament mars their schedules and also affects the game time of players at their major Clubs.

Atsu who has regained his form ever since making his loan move to Newcastle United from Chelsea wants Africa’s football governing body to restructure the time frame of the competition.

“It is a worry to many players especially the foreign players, it affects us a lot,” he spoke to TV3.

“Most a times you lose your position when you go back to your Club, because someone will play if you are not around and if the person performance meaning you have to sit on the bench when you come back.”

“It is a big worry and I think CAF should do something about it.”

The 25-year-old who was named the best player in the last edition of the competition is expected to play a key role for the Black Stars in the competition which begins on Saturday.
