Why Akrofosohene Deserves The Council Of State Slot For Ashanti- Patriotic Youth of NPP
We have observed with keen concern the sudden interests from some groups and individuals as far as the elections for the Ashanti Regional Representative at the Council of State is concerned.
We are also aware of the attempts by some contestants to use the name of His Royal Highness, the Asantehene and the Manhyia Palace as a campaign tool for the elections.
First of all, we want to emphatically state that the Manhyia Palace has absolutely no interest in the contest. The only interest the Asantehene and the Royal Palace has was that of the automatic slot and the subsequent appointment of the Juabenhene, Nana Otuo Siribuor by the Asantehene.
Our reliable source even indicates that the Juabenhene is likely to be appointed Chairman of the Council as a result of the respect and the recognition the government has for the Great King.
Apart from that the Royal Palace ideally, has no preferred choice. For it will be a sign of disrespect to even go into a contest with someone anointed by the Asantehene.
It is for this reason that as a concerned group of the NPP in the Ashanti Region, we want to lay emphasis on the fact that no one deserves the slot more than the Chief of Akrofoso, Nana Owusu Akyiaw. Here is a man who has given his all for the party at a time that many traditional rulers turned their backs and fell for the bait of the NDC.
Nana Owusu Akyiaw singlehandedly intervened in all matters concerning the party in the region, including brokering truce amongst feuding parties especially in the Sekyere East Constituency.
If many will recall it was Nana Owusu Akyiaw who without the knowledge of our then flagbearer and now President, His Excellency Nana Addo Dankwah Akufo Addo, doled out a whopping GH 50,000.00 to purchase the Presidential nomination forms for the NPP and Nana Akufo Addo.
Nana Owusu Akyiaw has also been a source of financial support to many party communicators in the region.
It was for these and other reasons that the entire party machinery, led by Mr. Bernard Antwi Boasiako, agreed to support Nana Akrofosohene for the slot.
It is our belief that the position of the party has not changed because this will amount to total betrayal and could discourage people from staying loyal and committed to the cause of the party.
We also want to caution and remind the Regional Chairman, Mr. Bernard Antwi Boasiako to keep to his promise of supporting the choice of the people of Sekyere East Constituency.
He must remember he disappointed us once by throwing his support behind the current MP after initially agreeing to back Col. Serebuor for the parliamentary slot.
We therefore wish once again to place on record that the Ashanti Regional party hierarchy agreed to present and support Nana Owusu Akyiaw for the slot and nothing must change that!!!
