Ghanaians Interest In Police Reshuffle Is Restoring Confidence In Their Service - GIGS

Executive Director for Ghana Institute of Governance and Security (GIGS), Mr. David Agbey is urging the new Inspector General of Police (IGP), David Asante Apeatu to ensure the reshuffle in the police administration restores confidence of Ghanaians in the police service.

According to him, it is a ritual for every new IGP to engage in a strategic reshuffle to strengthen the police administration and its services in the country but begged the Police boss to inculcate human face into their activities.

Speaking on Okay FM’s 'Ade Akye Abia' Morning Show, Mr. David Agbey again implored IGP to build a strong relationship with the citizenry; thus instilling public confidence in the service of the police force.

He maintained that the reshuffle should boost the respect of the police administration, affirming the public safety and taking into consideration the right of the citizenry to protest without police violation.

“This reshuffle is not a new thing in the police service but it is the strategy every new IGP does to strengthen the police service. What the citizens want to know is the measures the new IGP can put in place to help improve the security of the country and also to work on things which indict the service of the police as an institution,” he urged.

“We are interested in how the police can assure us that the image of the police service and administration will be improved so that the citizens can have confidence in their service and also to raise the integrity of the service,” he stressed.

He however advised that the senior police personnel who are affected by the transfer leave behind handing over notes and share their experiences with their colleagues to guide those who are taking over to know the characteristics of the people in the region they served.
