An Economic Surgeon Vs. a Noisy Economist

‘An Economist should not be a talkative’

Let the kite perch and let the egret perch too, and if one says no to the other, let his wings break– Chinua Achebe

Dear Dr Bawumia, how are you today? How is your family? How is your faith in Allah the Merciful and Compassionate? I will not bother to ask you how things are with your new office, because I have a fair idea.

I am proudly Ghanaian. My concern about our beloved nation will just not let me sleep.

The internet tells me everything I need to know, and so too the televisions, newspapers and radios. That is how I got to know, against all speculation, about your promises to Ghanaians.

Your alleged demon of corruption underfoot the NDC that you promised to eradicate is still waiting if indeed it does exist.

I have always said  the society sets certain standards by which people are measured by and it is the conviction of every Ghanaian that if the nation cannot bequeath anything to Ghanaians at all, it must at least bequeath to them, a leader with a high sense of morality, uprightness and humility.

I believe by now you would put to an end to the impression that you created with the tactics of portraying to the world that Ghana’s economy was in an intensive care unit of an economic hospital.

Mr. Vice President, I may want to find out from you that should Mr. Amissah- Arthur ask you a one Million questions about Ghana’s economy, would you ‘waste’ your precious time to answer like you expected from him in the past?

Although you knew your predecessor’s pedigree when it comes to fiscal discipline in managing our economy, you gave him no breathing space.

Out of some form of envy, you portrayed Ghana in the safer hands of the chief pilot, the intellectually equipped and experienced economic surgeon Kwesi Amissah –Arthur, an unfriendly destination to the business community.

As an economist who doubles as Vice President, I am sure by now you know that the seat needs a levelheaded person to steer the affairs of the country.

As the head of the government’s economic management team, the seat seems to be is hotter than that of the President, so you need to learn to measure your public utterances.

Integrity, I know is earned and not conferred. There is a saying that ‘no matter how many push-ups the lizard does, it can never be as big as a crocodile’.

I respectfully want you to also know that beyond charisma, connections and political leverage that you are said to have brought on board to the NPP, your predecessor had all that and key fundamental elements such as truth, trust, loyalty and complementary skills.

Amissah -Arthur brought that on board and he proved himself as a humble leader.

Talk of experience and qualification; you can never count him out. He is a seasoned politician. The greatest among his amiable qualities is his humbleness and meekness.

This man is indeed a mentor of all who wish to attain greatness.  So there was no need for him to fall to your tricks.

In ascension to power, Vice President Kwesi Amissah - Arthur proved to Ghanaians that politics could be played without rivalry and enmity. He exercised this by responding to critics in an educative manner not through insults.

Vice President Amissah-Arthur provided the needed pivot and respect for the nation's forward march under him and his team.

Instead of the lies told about the NDC administration, the time has come for you to tell the world that the past government deserves commendation for its indefatigable effort to turn the fortunes of the economy around.

Some just like Amissah-Arthur succeed and deliver on policies without making noise and make sure that the machinery of government moves in the right direction, in order not to lose focus instead of being a talkative.

Former vice president Amissah-Arthur completely redefined the Presidency and changed the perception of people towards it.

He took time to interact and open up to anyone irrespective of gender, age, religious and ethnic inclination, a move that has earned him respect across Ghana, Africa and the world.
