Some headmasters of schools in the Nanumba North District of the Northern Region say renewed clashes in Bimbilla could affect the academic performance of students in the area.
Schools in the district were forced to close down due to the violence which forced residents to flee the area in their large numbers to other communities.
DAILY GUIDE gathered that the Basic Education Certificate Examinations (BECE) will commence in June, 2017, but checks in Bimbilla revealed that schools reopened on 20th February, 2017.
Headmasters are currently moving from one radio station to another announcing the reopening of schools to encourage students to come back to schools in the various communities.
Some teachers, who are not natives of the area and fled, would have to get some assurance that nothing untoward would happen to them in the district.
The Headmaster of Bimbilla Junior High School (JHS), Mohammed told DAILY GUIDE that it would be difficult for schools to get all the students back because some of them do not live in Bimbilla.
“We are making radio announcements to get the students back to school, but some also live far from here and they do not have access to radio so it will be challenging to get in touch with them.”
Mr. Mohammed said that the various schools would have to speed up with teaching and learning in order to cover the syllabus.
According to him, some schools are yet to write their mock exams in readiness for the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE).
He appealed to the various schools in the area to counsel the students physiologically to conquer their fear, saying it’s obvious most of them would still live in fear.
The headmaster also appealed to the Ministry of Education to come to the aid of schools in the district.
The Bimbilla clashes started when Naa Andani Dasana, the regent of Bimbilla Traditional Area, wanted to enskin a sub-chief called Kanbong Naa (chief warrior) in the area against the advice of the City Council and the police.
The death toll in the renewed chieftaincy clashes in Bimbilla in the Nanumba North District of the Northern Region has reached 11.
The police found nine bodies in addition to the previous two, increasing the number to 11, with others sustaining various degrees of injury.
The dead include nine women and a four-year-old child.
The deceased have since been buried in the area by their families.
