Police: Crime Rate In Ghana Has Reduced By 8%

The Ghana Police Administration on Tuesday, November 3, observed that the general Crime Statistics across the country has reduced by 8 percent from 1,150 cases between January and September last year to 1,054 cases the same period this year. According to the Service, the decrease is as a result of renewed and consistent effort at fighting organised crime in the country. The Greater Accra Region tops the country in terms of general crime numbers of 392. Ashanti Region however tops with murder cases of 44 so far this year. Armed Robbery, illicit Narcotics Trade, Visa Fraud are the key crime types in Ghana. At a highly profiled Press Conference at the Police Headquarters, the Director of Police CID, ACP Adu Poku told the Press that his outfit is on top of the Crime situation. He mentioned the typical Crime Prone areas in Accra, Ashanti and Tema. In the Greater Accra Region, ACP Adu Poku named �Madina, Ashale Botwe, Adenta, Kwabenya, Kaneshie-First light, Haatso, Sowutuom, Tantra Hill, Maple leaf Hotel-Achimota, Dzorwulu Dimples, Kokomlemle, Dansoman, Darkuman Awoshie, Odorkor, Laterbiokorshie and Adringanor as the den of the armed robbers�. Asokwa, Duase, Asakore Mampong and Nhyiaso were also mentioned among other places as being the crime prone areas in the Ashanti Region. In Tema, ACP Adu Poku identified the Motorway Overhead Bridge, the Abattoir near the old Overhead Bridge, Sakumono Friday�s area, the Sakumono beach, Tema Heavy Industrial Area and Kpong as the �den of the armed robbers. One of the fraud cases ACP Adu Poku and his men had successfully cracked involves some Nigeria agents who had infiltrated the Police Service and recruited Policemen to defraud a Lebanese Business man of 10,000 dollars. The Four, all from the Delta State in Nigeria had impersonated the IGP in an attempt to defraud the Business man. ACP Adu Poku says the case is currently under investigations.
