UFP Man Arrested Over Gold Theft

The 2016 parliamentary candidate of the United Front Party (UFP) for Sissala East in the Upper West Region, Namuru Tahiru, has been bussted by police in Kumasi for allegedly stealing 45,000 tonnes of gold and a pump action gun.

The fashion designer was detained at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) police station over the weekend after he had been picked up at Tumu, his hometown, following a complaint lodged against him by his party’s 2016 flag bearer, Nana Agyenim Boateng aka Gyataba.

According to the police, Namuru Tahiru has since admitted the theft in Gyataba’s residence and was due for court yesterday.

Close Circuit Television (CCTV) footage allegedly captured the incident in the complainant’s house in Kumasi where the suspect had come to lodge, when he visited Gyataba – who is also the National Chairman of UFP.

KNUST District Police Commander, DSP Boakye Ansah, told DAILY GUIDE that the gun and the gold were yet to be recovered from the suspect.

Gyataba reportedly said he was much concerned about the pump action gun which has been registered in his name.
