Use Quality Materials For Building Projects

Mr. Kwaku Asomah-Cheremeh, the Brong-Ahafo Regional Minister, has called for the use of quality materials and in the right quantities for building projects.

He additionally asked that property owners engaged professional building contractors.

This, he noted, would go a long way to prevent the annual ritual of the roofing and walls of houses collapsing during rainstorm.

Mr. Asomah-Cheremeh was speaking during an inspection of the destruction caused by rainstorm that swept through Dormaa-Ahenkro.

About 932 people were left displaced and over 110 buildings including four schools and equal number of churches, damaged by the storm.

He was accompanied by Mr. Kwaku Agyemang-Manu, the Minister of Health and Member of Parliament (MP) for Dormaa Central, and Barima Ansu-Agyei, Krontihene of Dormaa.

Mr. Asomah-Cheremeh expressed concern about the extent of damage to property and noted that the story would have been different but for the inferior building materials used for the construction of the structures.

He promised that the victims would be supported by the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) to rebuild their houses.

Meanwhile, temporary tents would be raised to serve as makeshift classrooms for the pupils and teachers in the affected schools.

Mr. Ebenezer Yeboah, the Dormaa Central Municipal NADMO Coordinator, said 11 people including four children, got hurt by falling debris and had to receive treatment at the Dormaa Presbyterian Hospital.
