President’s Pro-Poor Policies Highly Commendable

Alhaji Issah Martey, a businessman, has commended President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo for making pro-poor policies a strong pillar of his national economic development agenda.

“I am particularly amazed to see a conservative President who is so concerned about the challenges and sufferings of the poor and the marginalized in our society”

In an interview with the Ghana News Agency, he said the goodwill generated by the massive electoral victory chalked by the New Patriotic Party (NPP) will help the President achieve his unique ambition.

He said the abolishing of the Kayayie levy had proved beyond all reasonable doubts that the President is humane and a true nationalist.

“The Kayayie levy collected by the District Assemblies meant a lot to the poor girls and women. It drained them and was a source of harassment and humiliation. It takes a person who understands the Ghanaian slum sub-culture and the dynamics of human need and condition to this.”

According to him,” We shall always remember him in our prayers. We need such people to be healthy and mentally strong to execute the noble task of national reconstruction.”
