Gov't Will Implement Its "1 Constituency $1m" Scheme - Veep Assures Ghanaians

"Funds meant for the implementation of the one million dollars per constituency may get stolen by state officials if you don't start making your development concerns known to government" Vice President Dr. Bawumia stated.

The One constituency One million dollars per year policy was one of the major campaign promises by the New Patriotic Party in the run-up to the 2016 elections.

There have been several criticisms about the policy with some people arguing that the policy is not feasible.

Speaking at the 87th Speech and Prize-giving day ceremony of the St. Augustine College in Cape Coast during the weekend, under the theme "Raising Ethical Leaders For Nation Building: The Pivotal of Students" Dr. Bawumia announced that funds for the implementation of the policy is available.

He urged Ghanaians in the 270 constituencies across the country to bring their development issues to the attention of the planning committee in charge of implementing of the policy.

Touching on the mining sector, the Vice President told the gathering that government will clamp down on the menace of illegal mining in the country.

According to him, although some stakeholders are known to be involved in galamsey activities, the Akufo-Addo-led government is bent on taking bold decisions to protect the country's water bodies from being destroyed by galamsey operators.

He noted that the government will also create more jobs for the youth to effectively deal with the situation.
